“I was a little quieter on here this year and this was for a few reasons, but mainly because I had a little smoosh. Surprise!” she wrote.

The actress said she kept her pregnancy private, as she “didn’t feel the pull to share” the experience on social media.

The video showcases treasured snippets of her journey, right up until the arrival of her baby.

“It’s a perfect lil snippet of some treasured moments from 2024,” she said.

Bennett, who welcomed her newborn with husband James Charlton, reflected on the life-changing experience of motherhood.

“It’s a wild thing having a child,” she wrote.

“In some ways pregnancy and birth can seem almost mundane — so many women have babies, so many women I love have had babies. And then I did it myself.”

Her labour, however, was anything but mundane, lasting 40 hours and ending in an emergency C-section.

“My birth was not my ideal situation ... it was hard. The hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Bennett said.

Bennett praised the resilience of women bringing new life into the world.

“Truly awe-inspiring what women are capable of,” she said.

Wrapping up her emotional post, Bennett gushed over her newborn, saying her baby was “so squishy and cute”.

“I’m a big fan,” she declared.

The actress has yet to reveal the name or gender of her baby.

Bennett rose to fame as Tora Brown in the 2005 hit UK family film Nanny McPhee, set in Victorian-era England in which she was one of seven mischievous siblings transformed by the magical nanny of the title, played by Emma Thompson.

Her character, the second eldest of seven children and the eldest daughter in the Brown family, is slightly more sensible but does not intervene to address her siblings’ naughtiness.

Slowly but surely, the comically ugly Nanny McPhee helps the children learn to take more responsibility to help their widowed father played by Colin Firth.

As the children become better behaved, Nanny McPhee herself transforms, with her facial defects disappearing.
