Netflix is aging up its dating-show demographic.
The streamer has released a trailer for an unscripted series called The Later Daters, which follows six baby boomers (ranging in age from 56 to 71) as they begin a search for love later in life. It’s set to premiere Nov. 29.
If the premise for the show sounds a lot like ABC’s The Golden Bachelor/Bachelorette, the execution is different, based on the trailer (watch it below). The Later Daters is more documentary than competition, following its six subjects as they go on dates and try to find meaningful connections. Each participant’s adult kids try to help, and the show also has behavioral scientist and author Logan Ury (How Not to Die Alone) acting as a dating coach while they, per the show’s description, “navigate a whole new dating world and its different rules and online etiquette (where the eggplant emoji maybe doesn’t mean what they think it does).”
The series comes from Higher Ground Productions, the company headed by Barack and Michelle Obama, and Boardwalk Pictures (Cheer, Welcome to Wrexham). Michelle Obama serves as executive producer along with Ethan Lewis, Tonia Davis, Andrew Fried, Jonathan Hausfater, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, Jennifer Lane (Queer Eye) and Cian O’Clery (Love on the Spectrum).
