Mussolini: Son Of The Century teased in trailer

If you're a fan of popular TV war dramas, then Mussolini: Son Of The Century might just be your next watch. Sky has just released a full length trailer of a new period series which focuses on the rise of the Italian wartime dictator.

Starring Luca Marinelli as the infamous Benito Mussolini, the eight-part series is based on the leader's rise to power in the 1920s.

During the original teaser trailer, a figure booms: "My name is Mussolini Benito Amilcare Andrea and my time has come." Fans are now given a full-length glimpse into the Italian's lust for power and rise to being the wartime leader of facist Italy.

The Italian-language drama also explores Mussolini's relationship with his wife Rachele, portrayed by Benedetta Cimatti, and his lover Margherita Sarfatti (Barbara Chichiarelli).

Luca Marinelli is the actor playing the power-hungry politician and has been credited in other films such as The Old Guard and They Call Me Jeeg Robot.

The series is directed by BAFTA-winning Joe Wright, who has worked on Atonement and Darkest Hour (2017) which starred Gary Oldman as Sir Winston Churchill.

Benito Mussolini was murdered in 1945 and his death marked the end of Italian Fascism’s 26-year regime. The wartime dictator seized power in 1922 and coined the term facism when he became prime minister.

Known as “Il Duce” (the Leader), Mussolini was known for projecting himself as an omnipotent leader. During his time as prime minister, he abolished local elections and reintroduced the death penalty for political crimes.

One of the biggest moves that Mussolini did was form an alliance with Adolf Hitler during World War II.

His downfall came when he was voted out of power by his own Grand Council in 1943. He attempted to flee with his lover to Switzerland when Nazi Germany's grip on Northern Italy fell.

Disguised in German clothing, he was recognised and later executed by Italian Communist partisans in April 1945.

You can watch Mussolini: Son Of The Century on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV from Tuesday February 4 2025.
