NFL Makes Decision Regarding Punishing Players for Doing Donald Trump Dance

1 month ago 6

The NFL is very adamant about players making political statements during televised interviews. San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa was fined for doing so when he flashed a Donald Trump "Make America Great Again" hat during a live interview. However, players have also been engaging in doing the "Donald Trump Dance" while celebrating plays.

Though it would be believed that the league would somehow punish players for doing the dance, as other celebrations have also been punished, that will not be the case. The NFL has officially stated that it has no issues with players who want to engage in the dance during play celebrations.

Since there has been speculation, President-elect Donald Trump’s signature dance, which several NFL players have adopted in celebrations, is not an issue for the league, according to sources.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on the league's decision, stating:

"Since there has been speculation, President-elect Donald Trump's signature dance, which several NFL players have adopted in celebrations, is not an issue for the league, according to sources. While the NFL has addressed celebrations in the past, my understanding is that they only take action against those deemed excessive or inappropriate. The Trump dance is good with the league office."

The "Donald Trump Dance" is in no way a political statement, as players are simply showcasing an imitation or parody of the dance.

An example of the dance can be shown here, as two Detroit Lions defenders showcase an imitation of the Trump golf swing, followed by the dance itself.

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers also did the Trump dance after scoring a touchdown on Sunday.

Though the NFL can step in and ensure that certain celebrations are in bad taste and prevent players from doing them, the Trump dance appears to be safe to use. Had the league banned that dance, there would have been multiple players on Sunday alone who would have been facing a fine.

The NFL fined #Vikings WR Justin Jefferson $13,659 for unsportsmanlike conduct after his TD last week.

One of the celebrations that has been deemed as a "violent act" is showcasing a gun-like hand gesture. Minnesota Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson was hit with a fine for that celebration in 2023.

According to a report from CBS Sports, Allen Lazard, Drake London, and Malik Nabers have all been hit with fines in 2024 for showcasing a gun-like celebration.

Clearly, making it seem as though a player is expressing gun violence is not something the league will tolerate. However, dancing like the president-elect is approved.

For now, it will be interesting to see how the "Donald Trump Dance' evolves in the league.
