Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty celebrated five years of marriage this week, and Barbie didn’t hesitate to let her Ken know how much she loves him.
Minaj took to Instagram on Monday (Oct. 21), with two separate posts showing off photos of her, Kenneth, and “Papa Bear” throughout the years.
“24 years after we first met. Love at first sight. I’m so proud of you,” she captioned the posts. “Thank you for catching me … every single time. Thank you for our little BFF. Dear Ken, Happy 5th Anniversary, Love, Barbie [pink bow] 10.20.”
The couple began their romance many years ago as teenagers in NYC, but reconnected when they ran into each other as Minaj was handing out turkey’s in her old neighborhood. The two dated and eventually went on to marry in 2019 before welcoming their first child shortly after.
The global star has brushed off critics who have turned their nose down at her romance. She married Kenneth, who was convicted in 1995 of a first-degree attempted rape and pleaded guilty in 2006 to first-degree manslaughter. As a result, he served about four and a half years in prison, and as a condition of his conviction, he had to register as a sex offender.
“He was 15, she was 16 … in a relationship [in the rape case]. But go awf, Internet,” Minaj defended her husband in 2018. “Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.”
