Four months ago, Nicole Kidman had to leave the Venice Film Festival early, abandoning the award she received for her film Babygirl as she learned of her mother's death.
Now she has been given the chance to not only accept an award, but do so in dedication of her late mother.
The 57-year-old accepted the award for her new film from her Scarpetta co-star and friend Jamie Lee Curtis at the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Festival.

She gave a tearful speech, telling the crowd of her peers, "I didn't get to do it at the Venice Film Festival. Thank you for giving me the chance to say this is for my mum.
"My whole career has been for my mum and my dad, who are not here now. I'm still going to keep working and giving to the world because I love what I do and I love you all, and I'm so grateful for the privilege to be a part of the film community.
"I'm sorry that I'm crying," she said, "I didn't want to do that. But I feel my mum right now, so this is for you."

Nicole Kidman's life and career in photos
The actress' mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, died in early September 2024 at age 84.
Kidman left the Venice Film Festival on September 7 after hearing of her mother's passing.
The Big Little Lies star had been awarded the Best Actress Prize at the festival for Babygirl, with director Halina Reijn reading a statement on her behalf which confirmed the loss.
"Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after, that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed," Reijn read to the audience.

"I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me and she made me.
"I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heart-breaking, and my heart is broken."
She later released a joint statement with her sister Antonia, 54, on Instagram.

"My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week," they said.
"Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other ❤️"
