Nigella Lawson, the culinary goddess, has recently praised a deceptively simple yet divine two-ingredient dish as the ultimate comfort food for those cherished moments of solitude.

At 64, the domestic goddess confessed her love for the humble yet heavenly pairing of eggs and homemade chips, dubbing it "the food of the gods" in an interview with The Times.

She shared her culinary preferences, she said: "These days, dinner for one at Casa Lawson ranges from anchovies on toast to pancetta and lentils, and eggs with homemade chips, aka 'the food of the gods'."

The celebrated chef, known for her indulgent and rich recipes, expressed her fondness for deep-frying, especially when cooking for herself, reports the Liverpool Echo.

She said: "I am a great believer in deep frying. It's nightmarish if you're doing it for huge numbers but doing it for one takes the fear out of it.

"I relish the evenings I get to eat by myself at home. Sure, I enjoy hosting lavish meals for big groups and in the office I am a feeder.

"But eating for one at home means the only person you have to satisfy is yourself. You get to choose the meal, the location (I am guilty of sofa eating too) and above all the portion size."

Despite her fame and culinary expertise, Nigella Lawson, mother of two and former wife of Charles Saatchi, admitted she doesn't particularly enjoy preparing meals for large gatherings.

In her candid revelation, she added: "I think that what people often feel is that cooking for one is a huge effort.

"But I think what often feels like an effort when you are nervous hosting doesn't feel like a big effort when you're alone because the fear is taken out. There is no sense of embarrassment."

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson has revealed her surprising struggle with tasting her own culinary creations, admitting: "I find it quite difficult to taste my own food properly when I am eating with lots of people. You hone in too much on what you don't like about it.

"I now feel so used to cooking for myself. I can go up to a very big number but I am not used to cooking for four as much."

She also highlighted the benefits of restaurant dining, enthusing about the ability to "order a bit of everything from the menu", a joy that's not always replicable when eating alone at home.
