Imagine Drake saying ‘you’re skating on thin ice, pal!’ during his now-infamous beef with Kendrick Lamar that entered a (shocking) new era with the ‘Hot Line Bling’ rapper alleging that UMG and Spotify deployed bots to “artificially inflate” the success of his Compton nemesis’ “Not Like Us,” violating the RICO act.

According to Billboard, Drake’s Frozen Moments LLC alleges that UMG used corrupt methods to ensure that the slanderous track dominated streaming services.

“UMG did not rely on chance, or even ordinary business practices,” attorneys for Drake’s company write. “It instead launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves.”

Furthermore, the Independent reports that Drake claims UMG “refused to engage” in discussions over the matter when confronted. It’s also worth noting that Drake was directed to sue Kendrick Lamar over the allegations instead of UMG or Spotify, but he did not.

“It instead launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves with a song, ‘Not Like Us,’ in order to make that song go viral, including by using ‘bots’ and pay-to-play agreements,” the filing states, claiming UMG charged Spotify 30% less than its usual licensing rates in exchange for Spotify pushing recommendations for “Not Like Us” to “users who are searching for other unrelated songs and artists.”

The pre-lawsuit filing also accuses Spotify of failing to disclose compensation for recommending the song, according to Hip-Hop Wired. As the beef played out, Drizzy alleges in court documents that UMG terminated employees who had ties to him.

“[Drake}received information that UMG has been taking steps in an apparent effort to conceal its schemes, including, but not limited to, by terminating employees associated with or perceived as having loyalty to Drake.”- the filing alleges.

Naturally, social media exploded with hilarious shenanigans fueled by Drake’s shockingly tone deaf power move to take legal action in the midst of a high-profile Rap beef.
