3 weeks ago 2

Netflix’s chief communications officer Rachel Whetstone and global public policy VP Dean Garfield are leaving the company.

The moves come as co-CEO Ted Sarandos seeks to streamline the positions into a newly created role of chief global affairs officer, who will oversee both policy and corporate communications. Garfield does not have comms experience and Whetstone was said to not be interested in the role, leading to their departures.

A candidate for the new role has not yet been identified.

“For nearly six years, Rachel and Dean have been not just leaders, but true partners. Their counsel, dedication, and passion have shaped our company and contributed to our success. Greg and I are incredibly grateful to them both, and wish them all the best for the future,” Sarandos said in a statement.

Whetstone joined Netflix in 2018. She previously held senior communications positions at Meta, Uber and Google. She previously worked in U.K. politics as a policy adviser.

Garfield joined in 2019 and previously worked as the as CEO of the Information Technology Industry Council. He also held positions at the Motion Picture Association and the Recording Industry Association of America.
