One of Sean "Diddy" Combs' defense attorneys has departed from the music producer's criminal sex-trafficking case, as indicated by new court documents.

Anthony Ricco submitted a motion on Thursday seeking to withdraw as one of the six defense attorneys representing Bad Boy Records, although he did not provide an explanation for his decision.

Ricco's request to step down will not be finalized until a judge officially approves it. The court must determine that there is adequate justification for such a withdrawal.

"Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs," Ricco stated in an affidavit filed in Manhattan federal court. "It is respectfully but regrettably requested that the court grant the relief requested."

The attorney did not specify the reasons behind his decision but mentioned that it followed a discussion with Combs' lead counsel, Marc Agnifilo.

He suggested that the brief nature of his affidavit was intentional, as he aimed to protect information covered by attorney-client privilege.

Nevertheless, Ricco assured the judge that there are "sufficient reasons" for his request to be released from the case.

He also emphasized that his resignation would not postpone the trial, which is scheduled for May 5, as Combs "will continue to be represented by five other attorneys of record."

Combs, 54, has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he coerced women into drugged sexual performances.

He has been incarcerated without bail since his arrest in September.

If convicted on the most serious charge, he faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and potentially life imprisonment.

Additionally, Combs is dealing with at least 40 lawsuits from individuals claiming he drugged them and sexually assaulted or raped them.
