Artificial Intelligence is transforming every day of our lives, especially how we perceive information and what we do with it. From self-driving cars to intellectual visual assistants, AI has taken the world by storm with its powerful technological advancement. As AI continues to advance our lives, innovators like OpenAI are pushing the boundaries of what is possible. In this regard, the AI company has unveiled its new o3-mini reasoning model with cutting-edge AI technology.
The model is designed in a way that enhances the capabilities of its popular language model ChatGPT. What’s more, is that the tech company has also announced to have a free version of ChatGPT within its o3-mini.
The model was previewed in December 2024 and delivers exception STEM capabilities including some of the tough fields like science, math, and coding. The company says that its small IA model supports highly requested developer features: function calling(opens in a new window), Structured Outputs(opens in a new window), and developer messages.
Additionally, developers can choose three reasoning options low, medium, and high. These options are based on the complexity of the problem the developer is having. The high reasoning option allows OpenAI’s new reasoning model to think out of the box and tackle complex challenges. This also allows it to prioritize speed when latency I concerned.
The blog post says that Model o3-mini does not include vision capabilities so the developer will have to use OpenAI o1 to perform visual reasoning tasks. The company is rolling out the new reasoning model starting today and developers can head straight to Chat Completions API, Assistants API, and Batch API to use the model.
However, the ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro users can access the OpenAI new model immediately. It rolled out on 31 January. Developers can try the o3-mini free of charge in ChatGPT by heading straight to the Reason feature in the chat option. The company has also tripled the message limit from 50 messages per day in o1-mini to 150 messages per day in o3-mini.
