Opinion: Why Britani Bateman Has Made It Hard for Some RHOSLC Fans To Enjoy Her

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5 is scratching all the right spots for fans. Mary Cosby is currently giving a performance of a lifetime and redeeming herself with her honest scenes. Lisa Barlow never fails to deliver some amazing one-liners. Newbie Bronwyn Newport’s back must be hurting since, in my opinion, she has been carrying these last few episodes. However, one fresh face, Britani Bateman, has made watching her on TV cringey in most of her scenes. I really want to like Britani, but is she making it too hard for some Bravo fans to get behind her?

It’s not all about Britani Bateman

Britani believes that the Bravosphere revolves around her. Currently, she is the Gretchen Wieners of Utah. Please stop trying to make “fetch happen.” A perfect example of Britani’s obsession with inserting herself into a conversation was during the Mexico dinner from hell. Angie Katsanevas tried to resolve her issues with Meredith Marks, but the actress kept interrupting. Mer didn’t have all the facts, and she didn’t know B was the instigator behind the bat mitzvah tantrum.

Britani did her best to interrupt and cause chaos at the dinner table. The most annoying thing was when she acted surprised when told to pipe down. I’m torn with the newbie. Is she putting on an act, or if she genuinely doesn’t see what she is doing during this conversation? She knew she had talked about Angie first outside the ceremony. However, she still tried to cover up her mean-girl conversation until Bronwyn finally called her out. If you are going to start drama, Brit, you have to at least keep a lengthy log of all the lies you’ve told.

Britani Bateman is giving Kim Zolciak vibes

Okay, I said it. From the moment Britani entered the conversation, I clocked her as the next Kim Zolciak or Brandi Glanville. Like these two OGs before her, Britani is crying out for attention. Cringey social media posts and petty, idiotic storylines don’t make a star. Britani has received critical acclaim while on Broadway, has a solid iMBD credit list, can speak Japanese, and sings like a Disney princess. Yet, all fans have been getting is her narrative with nobody, Jared Osmond. It almost feels like the producers wanted us to root against her.

It definitely doesn’t help that Britani posts some cringe-worthy social media content. My favorite to date has been a photo of her trying to look candid while taking a phone call out in the wild. She captioned the snap, “You’ll never believe who just called me…” Most fans don’t care, and we already know it wasn’t Jared, so again, stop trying to make that romance happen. Britani might have given viewers the ick when she first told Heather Gay that she has been chasing Mormon men since she was 15. The whole damsel in distress act feels outdated, and it makes me want to shake my TV and tell her, “You can be your own hero!”

Britani Bateman could turn it around

There is always hope regarding the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. As I noted above, Mary is having the season of her life after refusing to film a reunion, so there is a chance for Britani. After really stopping to think about Britani’s predicament, it dawned on me that she could have been a decent snowflake if given the right storyline. Instead of her dating woes with a man who clearly is not her BFF or interested in her, cameras could have followed her relationship with her children and how she is going about rebuilding her life. That type of information would have been interesting.

I would like to see Britani have a redemption arc. From her own words and interview, it is obvious that her first marriage was toxic, and as a fan, I feel bad for her. I want to be able to rally behind her and support her but Bravo has to help her out by giving her a better soap box to share her story. If viewers got to know the real Britani, I believe many of us would find her easy to relate to. As for the actress, all she has to do is genuinely be herself and stop putting on different masks to try and win us over. Come on, B, you can do it!
