MacStadium, a leader in macOS virtualization and cloud services, has just announced Orka Engine, the latest addition to its Orka lineup. Unveiled today as part of KubeCon, this product is designed to streamline DevOps and IT workflows by harnessing existing Mac infrastructure, either on-premises or in the cloud.

The push to keep infrastructure local has only intensified for organizations operating under stringent security and compliance requirements. Orka Engine steps into this niche with a robust macOS virtualization offering that doesn’t compromise on control or performance. With Orka Engine, teams responsible for mobile app development, quality assurance, and IT operations can build custom, secure macOS environments tailored to their needs.

We understand the critical importance of data security, especially for organizations with stringent compliance requirements, said Ken Tacelli, CEO of MacStadium. Orka Engine allows these organizations to build a modern DevOps pipeline on-premises using our industry-leading macOS virtualization.

What Makes Orka Engine stand out?

Orka Engine aims to offer flexibility, speed, and control. It offers:

  • Flexible Deployment: Whether teams need on-prem macOS infrastructure or a cloud-based solution, Orka Engine adapts to fit. It’s also supported on MacStadium’s bare metal and will soon be available on AWS, making it ideal for diverse deployment needs.
  • Granular Automation: With a powerful CLI, teams can script and automate the management of virtual machines, cutting down on manual tasks and streamlining workflows.
  • Fast, Consistent Startup: The ability to create fast, reliable VMs across Apple silicon nodes reduces bottlenecks and accelerates project timelines.
  • Shareable VM Images: Utilizing compressed, OCI-compliant images, Orka Engine makes it easy to share VM configurations within teams, enhancing collaboration and ensuring consistency.

With Orka Engine, teams can optimize their Mac resource utilization and maximize efficiency using a simple CLI, added Chris Chapman, CTO of MacStadium. By virtualizing Apple silicon Macs, teams can dynamically allocate resources where they’re needed most. This eliminates the risk of resource queuing and caching during release cycles and ensures that more builds are completed on time, every time.

The new tool will be showcased at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America from Nov. 12-15, with MacStadium at Booth R5. Orka Engine is now available for purchase through MacStadium’s sales channels, with AWS Marketplace availability following soon.
