Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley is claiming that the Los Angeles Clippers haven't honored part of his contract agreements stemming from his deal in 2019. Beverley, now playing overseas in Isreal, simply wants the organization to honor the agreement.
He also revealed that he turned down a higher paying deal from the Sacramento Kings in 2019 to stay with the Cluppers.
Accoring to the veteran guard, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer told him that he would help Beverley build 94 basketball courts around the city of Los Angeles. So far, that hasn;t happened and Beverley hasn't forgotten.
"So [when] I signed my deal with the Clippers, I got like a three-year, $50 million [offer] from Sacramento. And I'm like, 'Nah I'm cool.' Like, I want to stay with the Clippers, so I take the three-year, $40 mil [deal] from the Clippers," Beverley said.
"We go to the meeting at the Ritz in Marina Del Rey and we agree to the three-year, $40 mil [deal], and Steve Ballmer goes, 'With that, I'm gonna give you 94 basketball courts that you could choose to put all around LA.' That's fire as f–k!"
According to Beverley, the Cluppers got a few of the courts done with before COVID-19 closed everything down. He said that the agreement with Ballmer was a handshake deal and now that the Clippers have just built their new arena, he is looking to rekindle the agreement.
"I think they built two of them and then COVID hit, so I hit my agent and I'm like, 'What's up with those 92 basketball courts?'" Beverley continued. "I see they just built the arena worth $2 billion."
Los Angeles just opened up the new Intuit Dome in Inglewood so Beverley wants what he agreed too.
"I need 92 more courts. I got a lot going on I want to do for the city of Los Angeles. I got 92 courts I want to build still."
It remains to be seen if the Clippers will still honor this agreement that Beverley is claiming. But it seems that the former player will try to get it done.
He has been looking to get back into the NBA and has reportedly received some offers already. The longtime guard could provide a team with strong defense and good 3-point shooting.
Beverley has never been shy about anything and most teams can use a player like him on their roster.
