It's that time of year to make a hot chocolate, grab a blanket and watch all your favourite festive films - and one annual must-watch on Christmas fans' list is the Santa Clause franchise.

Tim Allen - best known for his role as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story - starred as Scott Calvin, a man who becomes Santa Claus after accidentally scaring him. The 1994 classic was so popular that families still enjoy it today, and it led to two films sequels being made - The Santa Clause 2 (2002) and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006). Plus, in 2022 a Santa Clauses series aired on Disney Plus.

After watching the films repeatedly over the years, fans have a pretty good idea of key moments on screen and many small details. But recently, fans were left stunned after only just realising hidden elf references in the films.

When Scott Clavin returns to his normal home life as a dad to Charlie, he tries to disguise his role as Father Christmas. Fans notice the whole time, elves were secretly checking in on Scott and Charlie.

One fan shared a clip on TikTok and said they noticed Santa's helpers following the dad and son around. "29 years of watching this movie and I never noticed this," @wittleghosty said. "Am I the only one?" they puzzled.

The clip, which has raked in over 8.8million views, zooms in on moments the elves are secretly there - from hiding in Charlie's classroom at school to sitting down behind them when Scott burns the turkey on Christmas Eve. Plus, when the duo are walking down the street and elf walks by them.

"Wait, what? The whole time?" questioned another stunned individual in the comments. One other wrote: "Oh my gosh this makes so much sense now in the Santa Clause series they say they chose him, they was always there."

Someone else pointed out: "In the first movie, when Scott is driving home from his work party, it shows elves staring in the windows of stores too. Just noticed the other day."

Another said: "The fact that they were watching him before he became Santa seems like they orchestrated the end of the old Santa and Scott becoming the new one."

But other beady-eyed individuals said they did notice. One individual said: "I definitely noticed. This was the only movie that ever gave me Christmas spirit as a kid." Another commented: "Did nobody know this? They were always with him. There watching him through his transformation of becoming Santa."

"Since the beginning when they are even looking in the department store windows they are always there," pointed out another individual. Another commented: "I told my mum the elves were watching him and tried to show her and she just told me I'm imagining things."

The Santa Clause films and series are available to watch on Disney Plus.
