Babyface experienced an awkward moment at the 2025 Grammy Awards when two Associated Press journalists abruptly ended their interview with him to speak to Chappell Roan instead.
The uncomfortable snub aired during the news agency’s YouTube live stream of the carpet.
As seen in clips circulating on social media, AP journalists Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria spoke to the legendary, 12-time Grammy-winning songwriter and producer when he stopped for an interview.
About two minutes into their conversation, Fauria and Ambriz spotted the "Good Luck Babe" singer," who is up for six trophies, making her way down the carpet and called out her name.
“You guys wanna take that?” asked Babyface, 65, before the women nodded silently. “Go take that.”
“I’m so sorry, Babyface. I’m so sorry,” said Ambriz while taking the microphone from him.
Roan gave the Associated Press a brief interview, but didn’t seem aware of the situation. Ambriz and Fauria reflected on the abrupt shift on-camera after wrapping up with Roan.
“It was fast. It was all at once,” said Fauria.
“And you know that's the carpet. That's the nature of the carpet, things move fast,” Ambriz added. “I do still wanna hear that answer from Babyface, so hopefully he circles back around or I'll just have to wait till I interview him again.”
Viewers at home weren’t as understanding of the situation and made themselves known on social media.
