The Philadelphia Phillies have made a huge addition to their starting rotation by reportedly trading for Miami Marlins hurler Jesús Luzardo.
Could president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski also find a way to land outfielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox?
Now that ace Garrett Crochet has been shipped to the Boston Red Sox, Robert is one of Chicago's best players left to trade. After a 2024 season in which the right-handed slugger posted a .657 OPS in 425 plate appearances, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal shared what the White Sox could be trying to receive in any potential deal.
"For Robert, the White Sox do not expect to receive multiple top prospects but would want a 'meaningful piece' in return, a source said," Rosenthal wrote.
With that in mind, FanSided's Zachary Rotman thinks the Phillies acquiring Robert from the White Sox is a "no-brainer" move for Dombrowski to make.
"All the Chicago White Sox want for Luis Robert is one 'meaningful piece,'" Rotman wrote. "They don't expect multiple top prospects. Unless the White Sox insisted on that 'meaningful piece' being Andrew Painter, would Dombrowski really not try to get something done?"
Painter is the Phillies' second-best prospect overall and best pitching prospect, according to MLB.com. It's also worth noting that Philly is reportedly sending shortstop Starlyn Caba (No. 4) and outfielder Emaarion Boyd (No. 23) to Miami in exchange for Luzardo. That leaves plenty of other impact prospects the Phillies could offer to land Robert.
Despite a rough 2024, Robert is one year removed from winning a 2023 Silver Slugger Award. That campaign included setting new career-high marks in home runs (38), doubles (36), RBI (80) and runs scored (90) in 595 trips to the plate. The outfielder will make $15 million in 2025, the final guaranteed season of a six-year, $50 million contract. His deal also includes club options for 2026 and 2027, valued at $20 million per year.
