Gregg Wallace apologises for his earlier post on Instagram

Piers Morgan has slammed Gregg Wallace as a "sexist pig" and has pointedly noted the "damning" silence of MasterChef co-star John Torode amidst the controversy.

The MasterChef presenter is embroiled in scandal following allegations of making "inappropriate sexual jokes" among other behavioural issues. It was recently confirmed that he would be stepping back from his presenting duties on the BBC culinary programme while an external investigation into the misconduct claims is conducted.

Wallace's legal representative has stated: "It is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature". Meanwhile, his MasterChef colleague John Torode has not commented, a fact which broadcaster Piers finds increasingly "more damningly louder by the day".

Piers has voiced his opinion on the matter, saying: "I don't know Gregg Wallace, but he's obviously a David Brent-scale sexist pig at best and possibly, if the groping allegations are true, a lot worse."

"One person who almost certainly knows the truth is his long-time MasterChef co-host John Torode, whose silence gets more damningly louder by the day," reports the Mirror.

The ex-Good Morning Britain host expressed his understanding and solidarity with the "cacophony of outrage" from women regarding Wallace's alleged conduct.

In his column for the Sun, he also remarked: "I stand with the women who are outraged over the way Gregg Wallace has treated women and applaud those who have finally spoken out about it after years of being too worried about the consequences."

Wallace appears to be incensed by John Torode's silence in the wake of a series of allegations. The MasterChef star, aged 60, has unfollowed both John and his wife, Lisa Faulkner, on Instagram.

Insiders close to Wallace have suggested that he was deeply hurt by John, 59, keeping mum following explosive claims from high-profile celebrities including Sir Rod Stewart, Kirsty Wark, Charlotte Crosby, and Ulrika Jonsson.

Over a span of 17 years, Wallace has been accused by 13 individuals of making inappropriate sexual comments and jokes. The TV host has also been alleged to have groped individuals, with more people coming forward with accusations.

John chose to ignore the controversy surrounding his former co-host when it erupted on Thursday. Just hours after the news broke that Wallace was stepping down from the long-standing BBC cooking programme, John was busy posting pictures of himself at the gym following an intense spin class.

Having worked alongside Wallace for nearly two decades, it is now claimed that there was significant tension between the two co-hosts behind the scenes on Masterchef all along. Despite the ongoing drama, Wallace appeared on screens this week as MasterChef: The Professionals continues to air.

However, it has since been confirmed that two MasterChef Christmas specials have been removed from the BBC's schedule. It has also been confirmed that three repeat episodes of BBC Two's Inside the Factory have been pulled from the schedule.

A BBC spokesperson stated: "As we have said, MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the chefs taking part and the current series of MasterChef: The Professionals is continuing as planned. The celebrity Christmas specials are obviously a different type of show and in the current circumstances we have decided not to broadcast them."

Express.co.uk has contacted Torode's representatives for comment.
