Pixel ‘At a Glance’ widget might show sports scores

Besides “Enhance Now Playing,” the latest version (V.13) of Android System Intelligence for the Pixel 9 reveals how Google is working to sports scores to the At a Glance widget.

About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we’re able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We’ll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they’ll look in case that they do ship. With that in mind, read on.

At a Glance will be able to “Show sports updates” and scores from the Google app, which already delivers them as notifications.

Of course, this appearance on your lock and homescreen will be more prominent:

  • <string name=”echo_smartspace_pref_sports_key”>gemini_space_sports_score</string>
  • <string name=”echo_smartspace_sports_toggle_subtitle”>Show sports updates from %1$s. These might affect battery life.</string>
  • <string name=”echo_smartspace_sports_toggle_title”>Sports</string>
  • <string name=”echo_smartspace_sports_toggle_subtitle_provider_name”>Google</string>

Also of note today is “gemini_space_sports_score.” In the past, At a Glance was considered a Google Assistant feature. Moving forward, it might get Gemini branding.

It’s unclear if that’s just naming, or whether there will actually be LLM-based features. One capability that comes to mind is if Gemini summarized sports scores in At a Glance rather than just display a straight notification.

Sports scores are not yet live in the At a Glance feature list. At a Glance has not seen new features in quite some time.
