If Google is already planning for a 2027 tablet, a “Pixel Tablet 2” next year is not surprising and some basic aspects, like the design, have now been rumored.
In terms of design, the Pixel Tablet 2 “won’t be that different from the original Pixel Tablet,” according to Android Authority. The top and bottom bezels might be thinner, while Google has prototyped different button and camera placements from the first generation.
It’s unknown from today’s report whether it will launch with Tensor G4 or G5, with the former more likely if it’s getting an earlier in the year launch. There will also be a “newer camera.”
Google is working on a keyboard cover that attaches via the rear pogo pins that “folds to prop up the tablet.” There are no details about a stylus, with Google said to have canceled both accessories for the first generation “over quality concerns.”
9to5Google’s Take
I’ve been using the Pixel Tablet since last May. Design-wise, it’s fine and comfortable enough to hold for extended gameplay and watching. I don’t even mind the uniform, moderate-sized bezels as they give you something to grip regardless of portrait or landscape orientation. The texture is also good enough, though I’d be equally happy if it were bare metal. Overall, the design trait I’d prioritize, if I were Google, is lightness (over thinness).
If Google is introducing a more overt productivity focus for this device, I think the screen needs to be taller in landscape (or wider in portrait).
With a new Tablet next year (for a 2-year life cycle), it will be interesting to see if the holiday deals on the existing generation get even better over the coming weeks. As of next week, it’s just:
