Coleen says her family loved their holiday to Skegness

You can holiday like one of the UK's most famous WAGs, without spending a complete fortune.

I'm A Celebrity runner up Coleen Rooney may be able to afford to whizz around the world in luxury, visiting bucket-list destinations like the Maldives and Monaco in private villas. But it appears the media personality - who is married to football legend Wayne Rooney - loves nothing more than a staycation.

Before leaving the jungle for some home-comforts, Coleen opened up to her campmates about taking her family on caravan holidays. "We go a couple of times a year," she said. "My kids love it." The celeb would often frequent Wales, and once took her four boys (Kai, Clay, Kit, and Cass) to a Butlins holiday in Skegness, which she said they loved.

Located in Lincolnshire, Skegness (aka Skeggy or Skeg Vegas) has long been a popular UK seaside town thanks to its wide stretch of amusements, bars, and sandy beaches. It's home to the famous Fantasy Island theme park, the Natureland Seal Sanctuary, and a well-reviewed Aquarium.

If you're not bothered about hiking or animals, simply grab some fish and chips and take a stroll along the pier. Then, spend the night winning big on the countless bingo halls, or watch an impersonation of Michael Jackson that sounds like the real deal (sometimes...)

Skegness is also a great place to travel without breaking the bank, with a wide range of accommodation types on offer for different budgets. You can live it up in a three-star hotel for around £50 per night, or stay in Haven Caravan park for as little as £12.25 per night. Skegness is also home to a Butlins, which is great for kids wanting to splash around in the water park, go on rides, and watch live entertainment in the evening: Everything is in one place, which takes all of the hassle of planning a holiday away.

However, Skegness has struggled to please everyone, even if Coleen was impressed by the town. In fact, travel website Destination Tips placed the destination in the top 10 worst places to visit in the world. In the 2017 report, it described Skegness as a 'pile of dirt' - comparing it to the ruthless regime of North Korea.

Dick Edginton, the town's mayor at the time, dubbed the ranking as 'absolutely offensive', arguing some people are keen to try and 'denigrate British seaside resorts'. "Skegness is one of the best resorts in the country with the highest visitor numbers," he added. "There are record levels of investment in the resort at the moment which shows confidence in business, both from local and national companies."
