A health expert shared the recipe for what they believe is the "strongest natural antibiotic that exists" - a concoction which can help ease cold and flu symptoms and fight inflammation.
Best Natural Recipes (naturalrecipes369) is no stranger to offering health advice using everyday household ingredients on TikTok. Their latest remedy combines three antioxidant-rich foods they claim can increase your immune system's strength by 200% and eradicate the viruses and bacteria causing coughs.
"Today I'll show you the correct way to prepare this remedy," began Best Natural Recipes in a video, explaining just one tablespoon of the mixture is enough to start the healing process. They started preparation by chopping a red onion, stating: "These contain quercetin - a compound that helps combat flu, coughs, tonsillitis, asthma and allergies, naturally."
Next, they sliced four cloves of garlic, noting: "When you slice a clove of garlic you release allicin - a sulfur compound with great antimicrobial and antiviral properties. This will greatly help to strengthen our immune system."
Best Natural Recipes then placed the onion and garlic in a container with a lid and added 12 tablespoons of honey. "This is very effective in reducing inflammation of the respiratory tract and quickly relieving coughs," they disclosed. "Stir for a couple of minutes so the ingredients can release their properties, then cover and let it macerate overnight for at least six hours."
Best Natural Recipes said the next day simply strain the mixture and take one tablespoon (or one teaspoon for children) before bed and you will "notice significant relief from the first spoonful".
Concluding, they recommended storing the mixture in the fridge for up to seven days. "It’s true, I made a few pots with some expensive honey and onions in summer," responded one TikTok user who has already tested the method.
"I'm going to try it too my husband and I both have bad asthma," wrote a second in hope. While a third praised: "I've used this many times in my life is perfect it works."
According to Healthline, onions do indeed contain antioxidants and compounds that may reduce your risk of heart disease by fighting inflammation and lowering triglyceride and cholesterol levels. They contain a large amount of quercetin, a flavonoid antioxidant and anti-inflammatory which may help lower high blood pressure.
Regarding garlic, the website said: "Scientists now know that most of garlic’s health benefits are due to the formation of sulfur compounds when you chop, crush, or chew a garlic clove. Perhaps the most well-known compound is allicin. However, allicin is an unstable compound that is only briefly present in fresh garlic after you cut or crush it."
And Healthline added: "Researchers have found that honey may increase adiponectin levels, a hormone that reduces inflammation and improves blood sugar regulation. One review of several studies on honey and cough in children found that honey appears more effective than diphenhydramine for cough symptoms. It may also help reduce cough duration."
