Prince Harry's 'American accent' baffles fans after neck tattoo video

Prince Harry left royal fans stunned when he appeared to get a massive neck tattoo in a promotional video for his Invictus Games.

In the teaser for the forthcoming games in Canada, Harry is seen wincing as if in pain while apparently being 'inked' by US music star Jelly Roll.

The country singer and rapper jokingly implied that Harry has consented to his first tattoo in the comedic sketch. However, it wasn't just the duke's seeming readiness to get a tattoo that caught attention - it was also his noticeably American accent, OK! reports.

After four years residing in California, Harry's speech now has an American twang, marking a departure from his Royal kin. Throughout the clip, Harry uses words typically used in American English, such as 'dude' rather than 'mate', and 'a**' instead of the British 'arse'.

Fans didn't hesitate to remark on his altered accent after viewing the video. One fan pointed out: "He totally has an American accent now." Another noted: "His British accent sounds more diluted to make way for the American accent."

Meanwhile, another remarked: "It sounds like Prince Harry is losing his British accent."

It's been almost five years since Harry and Meghan Markle sent shockwaves around the globe with their announcement to step down as senior working royals and embark on a new chapter in the United States.

Prince Harry's polished English accent has seemingly relaxed over recent instances, a detail that came to light in 2022 when he appeared in a promotional video for the tech start-up Better Up, where he is Chief Impact Officer. Spectators remarked on his changing accent then.

Speech and accent specialist Emma Serlin, founder of London Speech Workshop, explained to the Mirror that Harry's altered accent represents a move towards being more "of the people" rather than royal. She said: "Harry's accent now sounds much more rounded and middle rather than upper class.

"In a classic Harry way, he's doing what we know him to be - he's the friendly prince, he's charming, he connects with people. He is his mother's son."

She added: "He is now 'of the people' in a much more overt way. He has always toned the classic royal accent down and softened it, but previously he was much more aligned with the Royal Family. Now that Harry hardly ever sees the Royal Family - not only is he no longer aligned with them in the same way, but he also doesn't spend time with them in the same way."

Continuing her analysis, Serlin noted: "So, he has adapted his accent to connect more with the people he is meeting and seeing every day, and the people around him. Ultimately, I'm sure he would heighten his accent if he was around the Royal Family again, but it's really about adapting to build connections."
