Royal fans have spotted a special detail in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new family photo and it's left them emotional.

It is not often that royal fans get a glimpse of the two Sussex children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, three. For Meghan and Harry, nothing is more important than ensuring their two children enjoy a normal childhood, well away from the royal spotlight.

However, every so often, royal fans are treated to a bit of insight into how the two youngsters - who are sixth and seventh in the line of succession, respectively - are getting on. While taking part in engagements or events, Harry and Meghan will occasionally speak about their children, giving their fans a much-appreciated update along the way.

The couple's 2024 Christmas card included a seriously sweet photo of the two children running into their parents' open arms. While neither of the children's faces are visible in the festive card - Meghan and Harry are facing the camera in the photo, while the kids move towards them - eagle-eyed royal fans spotted one significant detail that shows both Archie and Lilibet have inherited one trait from their late grandmother, Princess Diana.

One Spencer gene that seems to have been strongly inherited by the two Sussex children is their red hair. While Harry is famously known to be a redhead, Princess Diana had wavy red hair in her childhood - and it looks exactly like Lilibet's.

While Diana opted for blonde highlights when she became an adult, the ginger locks has definitely been passed along to Harry's children, much to the delight of the late Diana's fans.

One fan wrote on social media, "Meghan is outnumbered by her ginger children and her ginger husband! Princess Diana's genes don't play!"

Another posted saying, " Prince Harry and his family are looking more like Spencer's every time we see them. Princess Diana really said, a loyal son deserves to carry my genes and she hasn't missed a step."

A third fan wrote: "I cannot get over how beautiful Prince Archie & Princess Lilibet are & look at those Spencer ginger genes!! Oh my world! Their Granny Princess Diana would have been over the moon seeing them & probably is watching over them!"

Harry himself has noted that Lilibet, in particular, looks a lot like his late mother, and how pleased he was that her Spencer genes had been passed onto his kids. "I think at the moment I see a lot of my wife in Archie and a lot of my mum in Lilibet," Harry said in the series he and Meghan made for Netflix about their love story. "She's very Spencer-like," the Duke said, adding Lilibet boasts "the same blue eyes" as Diana, and a "sort of like a golden, red-ish hair".

When appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Harry noted again that he sees his mother in his daughter, joking that the "ginger gene is a strong one" and "The Spencer gene is very, very strong."

"I actually really genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship that, should this go the distance and we have kids, that there's no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife's genes…But, I was wrong," Harry admitted.
