Prince William gave Kate Middleton a very odd gift in the early days of their relationship.
“I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once. She’s never let me forget that,” the Prince of Wales admitted on BBC Radio Five Live, per the Mirror.
“That was early on in the courtship that was — I think that sealed the deal,” he joked. “It didn’t go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars, it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
William and Middleton, both 42, met in 2001 and fell in love when they were students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. They walked down the aisle in April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London.
While the binoculars weren’t quite a hit for the Princess of Wales back then, she might get a laugh out of them now, as the royal family routinely exchanges gag gifts on Christmas Eve.
In his 2023 memoir, “Spare,” Prince Harry revealed he once received a fish ballpoint pen from Princess Margaret.
The Mirror previously claimed Harry, 40, gave his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, a cheeky shower cap that read, “Ain’t life a b—h,” one year.
Middleton also reportedly once gifted Harry a grow-your-own-girlfriend kit.
For this year’s festivities, the family spent Christmas at their countryside Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England, as per tradition.

Ahead of the holiday, William revealed he would welcome 45 guests to the estate and expected the gathering to be “noisy.”
Among those invited to celebrate Chrismas at Sandringham with King Charles III and Queen Camilla were William and Middleton’s children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
Prince Harry, his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children — Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, — reportedly did not score an invite.
