Ralph Fiennes has shared behind-the-scenes insights on what it is like to meet King Charles.
Fiennes made the comments in a wide-ranging interview with People Magazine. The video interview was posted to the magazine’s YouTube page.
“The atmosphere changes when royalty visits a film set,” he said, commenting on a photo of then Prince Charles visiting the set of a James Bond film. Fiennes said that Charles was “very charming to me and easy,” and revealed that he’s “warm.” The actor said he’s not sure if he’s related to the Royal Family, and he added that some people consider a visit by royalty a “pain,” whereas others wanted to know “what he’s like.”
In the video, Fiennes commented on a series of photos from different areas of his life. He also shared insights on Liam Neeson, his brother Joseph Fiennes, and playing “Voldomort.”
Ralph Fiennes Says That Liam Neeson Is a ‘Caring’ Person & Playing ‘Voldomort’ Required Accessing ‘Something Without Empathy’
Fiennes also talked about how he wore tights under his robe when he played “Voldemort” in “Harry Potter.” He said he was trying to “access something without empathy,” saying it’s about power and control.
He said he was the oldest of six children, sharing photos from earlier in his childhood. Fiennes said his mother urged her children to do everything “thoroughly.” She would get frustrated if her kids didn’t finish artwork, he said. “I guess she instilled in us a sense that you have to be tenacious.”
He also showed a photo of “Schindler’s List,” in which he co-starred with actor Liam Neeson. Fiennes said he purposefully gained weight to play the Nazi commandant in the movie. He took “rapid weight gain powder” to gain the pounds, Fiennes said.
He said he has a friendship with Neeson and called him a “caring supportive” person with an “older brother quality.” Fiennes described Neeson as a “dear friend.”

He said he was incredibly devastated that actress Natasha Richardson, Neeson’s wife, died so young. She also starred in “Maid in Manhattan.”
Fiennes called his brother Joseph Fiennes a brilliant actor and said he hoped he could do a movie with his brother someday.
He also said he has a deep connection and friendship with the actress Juliette Binoche, with whom he starred in “The English Patient.” He said, “That was a happy experience for us, very much,” and he said they have stayed friends. He described her as “inspirational” as well as kind.
