Artworks made by children are known for being honest, and one woman has gone viral after showing how such honesty reminds her to always look her best.

On December 29, TikTok user @muamashriq posted a video of a portrait hanging on her wall. The portrait, made by the poster's 9-year-old daughter, showed the woman's face in side profile with her hair up in a strange configuration.

"Hung this portrait my 9 year old daughter drew of me as a reminder to do my hair and get dressed every day," the poster wrote in text overlaid on the video. She added in the caption, "Kids are so humbling."

The clip has since gone viral, receiving more than 4 million views and 900,000 likes. The post has also amassed 6,000 comments, with many viewers praising the authenticity of the work while sharing a chuckle with mom.

Newsweek has contacted @muamashriq for comment via TikTok.

"Art is raw and you—ma'am—have given birth to an artist," one viewer reacted to the portrait.

"Ohhh, love that she included the breakage," another added, referencing the poster's hair in the drawing. "What a gem."

While the drawing might have been "humbling" for the subject, many users saw immense talent in the artist and praised the child's artistic skills—something the poster recognized as well.

When one viewer commented that the woman might not be seeing the talent in her daughter's drawing, the poster replied: "Of course I am! I'm an art teacher. Just having a good laugh on top of it."

Many viewers also saw something else in the portrait: a child's love for her mother.

"The truly amazing thing about this is that you were her muse, and she probably thought you were absolutely beautiful in that moment," one wrote.

"I have no clue what you actually look like, but this is really beautifully done, and it's clear she loves and adores you," another said. "Also, your daughter is incredibly talented!"

Creativity Is Important for Children's Confidence

Research has shown that creativity plays a positive role in children's development. In December, Crayola announced that a study it commissioned found a significant connection between creativity and confidence among children aged 6 to 12. According to the research, 92 percent of children surveyed believed that being creative enhanced their confidence. The finding underscores the role of creativity in fostering self-expression, self-efficacy and resilience—which are all essential for navigating life's challenges.

"Creative activities help children recognize their unique talents and develop a deeper belief in their abilities—giving children an incredible sense of joy and accomplishment," said Cheri Sterman, the senior director of education at Crayola. "By prioritizing creativity, we not only enhance children's immediate happiness but also equip them with the confidence and skills they need for future challenges."

Luckily for the TikToker's child, it appears this development of self-confidence is already happening at home.
