Hulu is heading back to court with Reasonable Doubt.
The Disney-owned streamer has renewed the series for a third season. The pickup comes about four weeks after Reasonable Doubt concluded its second season.
Following the finale, creator and showrunner Raamla Mohamed told The Hollywood Reporter that she was hopeful for a third season. “They [Hulu] definitely are happy with the way the show is performing, and it’s doing well and people are really excited about it so that makes me very happy. I’m hoping that I hear something before the end of the year either way. The most important thing is that people keep watching, keep telling their friends.”
Reasonable Doubt comes from Disney’s Onyx Collective and 20th Television (the show had been at the now-shuttered ABC Signature but will continue under the 20th banner). The legal drama centers on L.A. defense attorney Jacqueline “Jax” Stewart (Emayatzy Corinealdi); season two followed her as she defended a close friend (played by Shannon Kane) who was charged with first-degree murder of her abusive husband.
The season two cast also includes McKinley Freeman, Morris Chestnut, Tim Jo, Angela Grovey, Thaddeus J. Mixson, and Aderinsola Olabode. Chestnut will star in CBS’ drama Watson starring in January, and Mohamed told THR she wasn’t sure if he’d be able to return to Reasonable Doubt.
“Morris is amazing, not just on screen but working with him. He’s also booked and busy,” she said. “He has a whole other show that he’s the lead in, so I was happy to have him in the little window that I could have him.”
Mohamed executive produces Reasonable Doubt with Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone for Simpson Street, Larry Wilmore via Wilmore Films, and Anton Cropper.
