Boston Red Sox fans are expecting a huge offseason. Plan A appears to be signing New York Yankees superstar outfielder Juan Soto and then figuring everything else out after that. Plan B, the more realistic of the two, is to spend hundreds of millions of dollars bringing in top free agents besides Soto while also looking to swing a few trades.
Either way, the Red Sox appear to be trending in the right direction if they can execute one of their two plans this offseason.
FanSided's MLB insider, Robert Murray, believes the Red Sox will make a "big splash" this winter, though he doesn't get into exact details.
"I don't know what it will be, but I expect the Red Sox to make a big splash," Murray wrote. "This could very well be an offseason prediction – I'm not sure when the Red Sox's splash will ultimately come – but I expect them to make a splash. There's just too much smoke to ignore and, quite frankly, with how the Red Sox have indicated that they'll spend, anything less than adding a star or two will seem like a failure to the fanbase."
Murray would go on to connect the Red Sox to the top starting pitchers on the market, those being guys like Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, Max Fried, and Jack Flaherty. Murray also indicated that a trade for Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet isn't out of the picture either.
While Boston may not be the favorite to land Soto, its backup plan will be expensive and it'll be exciting to watch unfold.
