Red Sox, Tigers, Astros Listed As Potential Fits For $119 Million World Series Legend

Houston Astros World Series legend Alex Bregman is now an unrestricted free agent and he's looking to cash in for a nine-figure pay day. Spotrac projects him to land a four-year, $119 million contract. Some experts project him to sign near the $150 million range as well.

The suitors for Bregman, 30, will range from the best teams in the league to rebuilding teams looking for a franchise cornerstone.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post has reported that Bregman has three main suitors: the Astros, the Boston Red Sox, and the Detroit Tigers.

"The Tigers are interested in star free-agent 3B Alex Bregman, which would give him a chance to reunite with manager A.J. Hinch from their Houston days — and yes, the incumbent Astros are in with an offer," Heyman wrote. "Ultimately, Bregman might be pricey for Detroit. The Red Sox inquired and could be a fit for Bregman if they move Rafael Devers to first."

The Tigers are expected to be very aggressive in the free agency market as they look for both pitchers and position players. They outplayed a front office that sold at the 2024 MLB trade deadline, pushing Bregman and the Astros out of the postseason. He would be a good fit in Detroit, as would any top hitter.

The Red Sox are also a good fit because they're looking to add just about any top free agent possible. Heyman noted that Boston is in on Blake Snell, Max Fried and Corbin Burnes as well.

Houston should be considered the favorite to land him, as Bregman has made very good relationships while with the Astros.

Things could change drastically after Juan Soto signs, though. Both the New York Mets and the New York Yankees have over half a billion committed to trying to bring in Soto right now, which practically eliminates them from signing Bregman.
