Redmond O’Neal — Ryan O’Neal’s troubled son with the late Farrah Fawcett — has been living a sad and solitary life in a Los Angeles–area institution since being found unfit to stand trial for attempted murder and other charges in 2019 and may remain hospitalized for the rest of his life, multiple sources exclusively tell In Touch.
“Redmond has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and antisocial personality disorder,” says the first insider, who adds the longtime addict has made little progress in his time at Patton State Hospital.
According to the insider, the 39-year-old has limited “moments of recognition” that cause him to cry — “sometimes uncontrollably.”
In 2018, the only child of Charlie’s Angels beauty Farrah and Love Story stud Ryan was accused of possessing heroin and meth, stabbing a man, injuring another with a broken bottle and armed robbery.
He has spent most of his adult life in jail, rehab or psych wards, and was said to be in no shape to appear at his dad’s send-off after Ryan died of heart failure last December.
The locked-up loner has blamed his folks and their fame — not his drug demons — for his sorry state.
Equally heartbreaking, another source says, is he won’t accept visits from concerned relatives, including half-siblings Tatum, 61, Griffin, 60, and 57-year-old Patrick O’Neal.
The second source confides, “He just continually believes his family ruined him!”
