Reese Witherspoon has spoken out about her 'feud' with Kate Winslet, after fans thought they had worked out the identity of the unnamed star who stopped being her friend.
Legally Blonde actress Reese sparked intrigue among fans, who sleuthed their way through the internet to discover who she was speaking about when she admitted she is "haunted" by an encounter at an awards ceremony. Reese, 48, admitted that she's "not friends anymore" with the "serious, proper actress", who she "roasted" at an "elegant and classy" British awards do.
But after fans surmised the actress in question was in fact Titanic star Kate Winslet, Reese took to social media to dismiss the speculation that has circulated among fans. Writing on her Instagram Story on Saturday, Reese said: "Hey guys .. Just spoke to my very dear friend for years Kate W.
"We laughed about this stupidity. Please do not believe the internet. We are good friends and have never had any falling out."

Getty Images)The star had circled a headline shared by celebrity gossip site Just Jared, which stated Reese is Kate's "former friend". Her next story referred to a headline about her 2007 Brit Awards speech, in which she honoured the English actress. She wrote: "This is completely UNTRUE... So silly."
The interview in which she made the comments were made to People magazine, while she promoted her and Will Ferrell's upcoming comedy You're Cordially Invited. Reese asked Will during the interview: "Have you ever had this moment where you gave a speech and then like three years later, you’re like, ‘Why did I do that? Why did I do that?'"
Reese admitted it still "haunts" her and said: "So this friend of mine — who I didn't really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress — she asked me to give her an award.
"But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her." But devastatingly, she realised her "funny" speech wasn't landing too well, adding: "The tone [of the event] was British and elegant and classy. And I was like, 'Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!'."
She added: "We're not friends anymore. I'm not even kidding, she doesn't like me anymore. I'm not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore. Oh well."
In her speech in 2007, Reese said: "I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglasses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, and have savoir faire and gravitas.
"Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighbourhood, rang my door bell and said, (insert British accent here) 'Dahling, Sam is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it's almost 9 o'clock and I've had nothing to do drink, do you have any wine?'"
