Reese Witherspoon is still on good terms with ex husband Jim Toth, as they coparent young son Tennessee, but the former super agent is feeling like a forgotten man in many ways and finding her new romance with billionaire Oliver Haarmann a hard reality to deal with, a source who has worked closely with both Jim and Reese in the recent past exclusively tells In Touch.
“You have to credit Jim for the money he made while he and Reese were married and were business partners,” the insider tells. “Jim really was a key player in Reese building out her company, Hello Sunshine, and helping her to sell it for nine figures.”
The Sweet Home Alabama star, 48, first got together with Tim, 54, in February 2010, following her split from actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The two married the following year in 2011 and welcomed their only child, Tennessee, in 2012.
While things went well between the two for a while after their son’s birth, a different source previously told In Touch around the time of their split in April 2023 that “they had been living separate lives for years” at that point.
“Their marriage became one of convenience over love,” that source said, “transactional so to speak.”
Jim and his Big Little Lies actress wife seemed to make better business partners than spouses. The CAA agent was no slouch prior to meeting Reese, but his business savvy and industry acumen helped her balloon her net worth to $300 million through a combination of her work in Hollywood and Hello Sunshine, which “aims to broaden perspective and empower women by giving them authorship, inspiring agency, and creating a platform to help them shape culture.”
The first source says that, while they both left the relationship richer than they went in, Jim had been hoping to parlay his A-list marriage into even greater success.
“Jim was never fully happy being a talent agent but his years at CAA, and his eventual relationship with Reese, gave him clout and fame around town that has totally evaporated in the last few years.”
“Jim came out of the marriage with tens of millions of dollars and Reese still has hundreds of millions of her own,” the insider says. “But the divorce was supposed to mark a new chapter for Jim where he could reinvent himself and turn his many millions into a billion or more.”
“Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened for Jim and instead he’s having to cope with the fact that Reese has taken up with an actual billionaire in the form of Oliver Haarmann, a guy who is more successful than Jim by any possible metric.”
Reese has been spotted around town showing off her new billionaire beau, which the insider confides has been “humbling for Jim, who still sees Reese all the time and is still very involved with coparenting duties with her.”
“Now, he’s just like any other single dad driving his kids to sports practice, and you can really see it all over Jim’s face that it doesn’t feel good.”
“The poor guy is a shadow of his former self.
