Limescale, soap scum and grime can all build up around sinks, causing them to look unsightly.

Some people may turn to harsh chemicals from supermarkets to remove them, but experts have recommended against this.

The cleaning experts from Plumbworld explained that baking soda can transform the sink in “minutes”, all for less than 50p.

They said: “Baking soda is a natural, non-toxic cleaning agent that works wonders on everything from bathroom sinks to kitchen counters.

“It’s gentle on your sink’s surface but tough of grime and stains, making it an ideal cleaning solution for a spotless, eco-friendly home.”

Start by sprinkling baking soda over the sink surface, focusing on the drain and the edges of the sink.

Add a little water by dampening a sponge or cloth and gently rub the baking soda into the sink to create a paste.

The experts said: “This will activate the baking soda and help lift dirt, soap scum and mineral deposits.”

Use the sponge to gently scrub the sink, but for extra cleaning power leave the paste on stubborn areas for a few minutes to help break down the grime.

Next, simply rinse the sink with warm water to remove the paste and then buff it dry with a clean cloth.

A spokesperson from Plumbworld said: “This 50p trick using baking soda is an excellent way to clean your sink without relying on the harsh chemicals often found in supermarket products.

“It’s simple, cost-effective and gentle on both your plumbing and the planet.

“For deeper cleaning or specialised needs, we recommend exploring our range of eco-friendly, high-performance cleaning products to keep your home looking spotless.”
