Resident Evil 2, Assassin's Creed Mirage Mobile Sales Are Struggling

3 hours ago 2

In recent years, Apple has started to bet on console-quality gaming on its iPhones and iPads. While many triple-A developers have ported their games to mobile, they've never sold well on the platform. The same goes for Capcom's Resident Evil 2 and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Mirage on iOS.

Mobile game analytics firm Appmagic (via Mobilegamer.biz) estimates that Resident Evil 2 has only passed $100,000 in earnings through the App Store. Capcom's Resident Evil 4 has generated a lifetime revenue of $530,000, translating to roughly 8,833 paying customers. Resident Evil 7 suffered the worst, making just $87,000 with a base price of $20.

Elsewhere, Assassin's Creed Mirage, on the other hand, has brought in slightly more revenue at $496,000, which means roughly 9,920 customers paid the full price of $50 to unlock the game.

The most successful triple-A mobile port has been Death Stranding, which has earned $581,000, translating to 14,525 players with the game's base price set at $40.

Unlike triple-A games, smaller titles that adopt a free-to-play model, or are offered through subscriptions like Apple Arcade, seem to be doing much better. Poker roguelike Balatro has just crossed five million sales, while Pokémon TCG Pocket made over $400 million in gross revenue within 10 days of launch.

Apple has long been trying to court mobile gamers to try out triple-A offerings on the iPhone. Unlike PC and console games, the mobile ports are available through a free-to-start model, meaning players can try out most of these games for free for a limited time.

Once players break through a certain point, like a prologue or tutorial, developers demand payment to unlock the rest of the game. The prices of these mobile ports are nothing to laugh at. While most casual mobile games are either completely free-to-play or cost under $10, the ports of triple-A console games can cost anywhere between $40-60.

If you're playing games on an iPhone, the best way to find new games is through Apple Arcade. The subscription service has added 10 new games including Final Fantasy, with more on the way.
