Of all of Donald Trump’s scary second-term Cabinet picks—and this group is truly a murderers’ row of people you’d never, ever want running the government—one of the absolute scariest is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Long known as a rabid anti-vaxxer, Kennedy has been nominated to serve as Health and Human Services secretary, a role that would give him vast power over federal agencies like the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s deeply worrisome not just because of Kennedy’s views on vaccines, fluoride, raw milk, and the normal thing to do with bear and whale carcasses but also because he’s a total hack who appears to have his head up Trump’s ass.
We say this not only because Kennedy endorsed Trump for president but also because Mr. “Make America Healthy Again” posed gleefully in front of an array of McDonald’s over the weekend, not long after dubbing Trump’s favorite food “poison.”
In the photo, posted by Donald Trump Jr., Kennedy is seen at a table on Trump’s plane with the president-elect, Don Jr., and Elon Musk. (House Speaker Mike Johnson smiles behind them.) In front of the men are trays of McDonald’s food; Kennedy sits before a bottle of Coke, a box of fries, and what appears to be a hamburger, likely a Big Mac.
Obviously, no one should be shamed for their food choices. But it was only days ago that Kennedy declared in an interview that the food available on Trump’s plane, primarily McDonald’s and KFC, is “just poison.” (He called everything else served on the plane “inedible.“) But apparently when the boss says eat this poison, you eat the poison!
In other Kennedy news, his cousin, Caroline Kennedy—a.k.a. one of John F. Kennedy’s daughter—told reporters over the weekend that as an ambassador (to Australia), she is not “supposed to comment on politics.” But she apparently couldn’t not weigh in on one of her family members being a dangerous joke, saying: “Yes, I think Bobby Kennedy’s views on vaccines are dangerous.” She added that her uncle Ted Kennedy “spent 50 years fighting for affordable health care in the Senate,” and that her “Aunt Eunice started the Special Olympics and the national institute of maternal and child health is now named after her. So I would say that our family is united in terms of our support for the public health sector and infrastructure and has the greatest admiration for the medical profession in our country, and Bobby Kennedy has got a different set of views.” Caroline is not the first Kennedy speak out against RFK Jr. In 2019, three of his relatives wrote an op-ed titled “RFK Jr. Is Our Brother and Uncle. He’s Tragically Wrong About Vaccines.” More recently, several of his siblings called his Trump endorsement “a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear.”
