RHOA Alum Peter Thomas Gets 18-Month Prison Sentence

Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Peter Thomas is heading to prison. Remember when he wed Cynthia Bailey under a romantic canopy of dinosaur bones? The two later divorced, but their wedding was … memorable. And now Peter is embarking on a new phase of his life.

Peter Thomas took a plea deal, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison

Of course, Peter is no stranger to financial problems. However, in June 2024, Peter pleaded guilty to one felony count of failing to pay over trust fund taxes. He reportedly withheld federal taxes from his employees paychecks for several of his businesses. However, Peter never actually ponied up the taxes.

In court, Peter explained that he thought that he could “catch up on” his delinquent taxes, but instead just increased his debt. He also apologized to the US government.

After his plea deal, Peter was facing up to two years in prison. However, TMZ reported that Peter was sentenced to 18 months in jail. He also has to pay $2.5 million in restitution to the IRS. Plus, Peter will have two years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

When Peter does report to prison, he will be housed in a facility close to Miami. That way he will be able to access substance abuse programs and educational programs.

Before he was sentenced, Peter shared a video on Instagram. In the video, Peter suggested that business owners “please learn [from his] mistake.” He added that he was prepared to “face the music” for “consistently withholding taxes for business over 10 years.” Yikes! Finally, Peter stated, “I plead guilty. And, with my plea of guilty, I have to sit down for a while.”

He captioned the Instagram post, “Public announcement, most people are confused when it come to paying withholding taxes, I am here to set the record straight, yes you will go to jail, test you still have to pay the taxes also, jail don’t mean that the taxes is forgiven.”

Thankfully, in August 2024, Cynthia and Peter were able to reach some closure on his podcast. Couldn’t that be done in private?

“I AM SO GLAD THAT I SAT DOWN WITH PETER FOR HIS PODCAST. To be honest, we actually had a lot of fun and laughed the entire time,” Cynthia said.

Well, I guess time will tell if Cynthia will keep in touch with Peter during his government-sponsored vacation.

Real Housewives of Atlanta is streaming on Peacock.
