Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Dorit Kemsley opened up about how her son, Jagger, learned about her separation from Paul “PK” Kemsley, and she was disappointed to find out he discovered the news through social media.
Dorit, 48, explained to her costars that she and Jagger, 10, were taking their dogs for a walk when he asked, “Are you and daddy divorced?” during the Tuesday, January 28, episode of RHOBH.
“I said, ‘No, honey, what makes you ask that?’” Dorit continued. “He said, ‘Well, did you post something on Instagram?’”
The women were shocked to hear that this was how Jagger discovered the news, and Dorit discussed how she explained the situation to him.
“I said, ‘In marriages, when you’re married for a long time, you can have your ups and downs, sometimes you need a little time apart,’” Dorit said. “And he said, ‘But you and daddy, you’re always going to be friends, right? You’re always going to be best friends.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I sure hope so!’”
The estranged couple had previously discussed that they weren’t going to share the news of their split with Jagger and their daughter, Phoenix, 8.
“We’re not going to be talking to the kids. So I’m not saying we know what we’re doing, because the truth is, it’s a very personal thing and no one knows our kids better than us. No one,” PK, 57, told Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky during lunch.
Dorit and PK initially announced their separation in May 2024.
“We as a couple have been subject to a lot of speculation about our marriage,” they wrote in a joint statement via Instagram. “We have had our struggles over the last few years and continue to work through them as two people who love each other and share two amazing children together. To safeguard our deep friendship and maintain a harmonious environment for our children we have made the mutual and difficult decision to take some time apart and reevaluate our relationship while we prioritize our children. We appreciate your love and support while we continue to do the work necessary throughout this journey.”
However, fans are watching their split play out during this season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The topic of their separation has been a frequent one for Dorit this season. The mom of two surprised her costars Erika Jayne and Kathy Hilton in the season 14 premiere when she claimed PK was having “communication” and “avoidance” issues.
“PK and I have agreed to separate,” Dorit told her friends. “It’s sad and it’s hard. It’s also no secret we’ve had a really rough couple of years. We’ve had a rough couple of years, and even before that, you know, just like with most married couples, you have your issues.”
Dorit also claimed that PK was “was pouring alcohol on his [problems]” and said that their relationship was “very, very, very toxic.”
“PK’s always been a drinker, but over the years, it’s gotten progressively worse,” the Bravolebrity later explained during a one-on-one interview. “Little fights would turn into blowups. We would be in the gutter after a fight, screaming at one another. I don’t want that toxic energy around small children.”
