Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has been a big hit so far. Of course, part of the acclaim it has garnered resulted from Bronwyn Newport. Not only has she been able to confront the ladies early on, but she has also shared some personal details about her life that have left fans on the edge of their seats. Now, she’s opening up about her daughter and her father.

Fans will recall that in a previous episode, Bronwyn discovered that Lisa Barlow actually had ties to her daughter’s father’s family. Sadly, her daughter didn’t meet her father before he passed away. Additionally, at the time of filming, she had never met his family, which would be her grandparents.

Recently, Bronwyn sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight and discussed the situation. First, she was asked about the emotions she felt sharing such a personal story during her first year as a housewife.

She starts, “I was prepared for conversations about the age difference in my relationship and the fact that I dress like a looney toon character.”

Bronwyn goes on, “I was not prepared for that because it’s not something we live day to day. It was something that happened so long ago for us, and she doesn’t have a relationship with them, so we don’t discuss her family on a regular or even semi-regular basis. So, it was very shocking for me that this connection happened.”

She continues, “I didn’t know where they lived so them knowing Lisa was very shocking. I don’t know how else to say it other than that.”

Next, the RHOSLC newbie talked about the decision to have those tough conversations on the show.

She says, “But I did sign up for this. I did agree to put my life out there, and this is something that happened organically while we filmed, so it felt like I needed to allow the cameras to follow that process as hard or messy as that was.”

Bronwyn then says, “There is a fear in me as it plays out. My parenting is fair game. I put myself on the show. The way I handle myself is fair game. I’m happy to talk about what it’s like to be a single parent, to mother a child who doesn’t know her biological family, but I am very fiercely protective of the child involved. Gwen is sill my baby and she always will be.”

She then talks about how viewers may be able to relate to the story they shared on the show.

According to Bronwyn, “I was so grateful that she was willing to share this. I think it will resonate with other people who have different family dynamics, but I did feel really sad that she had to explore this in such a public way. I’m hoping everyone is generous, gracious, and wonderful to her. Send the insults my way. I will set up a P.O. box and people can just mail them right to me.

She adds, “It’s very difficult. It’s hard to navigate how you make these big life decisions in real life, let alone when there’s a camera there.

Bronwyn also shared that her daughter is yet to meet her grandparents. However, she is hopeful.

She says, “I always hope it changes in the future. I always think everybody should have all the love and support that they can, and as soon as that feels like a loving and supportive avenue, I hope that they are able to take that path together.”

She then admits, “It’s probably best if I’m not part of that path honestly at this point for everyone involved. I love Gwen enough. I want what’s best for her even if it’s hard for me or uncomfortable for me.”

Finally, she explains, “I went through this at 19-years-old, Gwen is now going through it at 18. There is some cyclical nature that feels very awkward and very hard. It’s a very weird thing that I have struggled to be friends with these ladies and trust them, and then this thing that kind of defines my trust issues comes up in this group.”

Fans can watch Bronwyn on RHOSLC on Wednesday nights.
