Richard Hammond in mental health update after splitting with wife of 28 years

Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond is set to open up on mental health issues with his daughter Izzy on the new series of their podcast

Richard Hammond is set to open up about his mental wellbeing following the breakdown in his marriage.

The former Top Gear presenter, 55, confirmed he had split with wife of 28 years Mindy, 59, last week. It's thought Mindy is keen to keep the couple's Herefordshire castle in their divorce.

Now, Richard is ready to open up on his mental health in a brand new series of his podcast. He is set to chat with Professor Green, David Harewood and Leigh Francis on the Who We Are Now show alongside his daughter Izzy, 23.

The new series is set to be released next week and will see both Richard and Izzy look at their self-growth journey as well as tackling a number of stigmas. Among the topics will be midlife crises, what makes a modern man, the menopause, and how to live a healthier life.

The new series will come shortly after Izzy opened up to Ben Fowler. The chat came just before news of Richard and Mindy's split. Izzy was asked if her dad should be labelled a daredevil or an idiot. She responded: "We've done handbrake turns around roundabouts, sorry I know that's incredibly illegal you might have to cut that out. He's an idiot."

She continued: "He has that thing that racing drivers have where they just don't have the fear. Everyone has that line where it's like "okay I know where the line is", he just doesn't have that. He really genuinely would just go and go and go."

Discussing how he wasn't always around during her childhood with sister Willow, 22, Izzy added: "'I always think it must be frustrating for my mum because probably some of my happiest memories are ironically with my dad because he wasn't there that much because he was filming. He wasn't there a lot and that's all I really knew growing up."

It's said Richard and Mindy "fought to save marriage for months". It was reported following the breakup news that Richard had been sleeping in the converted barn of their Bollitree Castle estate in Herefordshire prior to their split. There's also speculation that columnist Mindy initiated divorce proceedings.

Richard is now said to be living in rented accommodation a "short commute away" from the family home. It's reported the presenter "fought to save his marriage" for almost 18 months before "accepting it was over".

The pair released a statement last week to announce their split. It read: "A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently.

"Our marriage is coming to end, but we've had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters. We will always be in each other's lives and are proud of the family we created. We won't be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time. With Love, Richard and Mindy."
