Richard Hammond's wife 'kicked him out of castle to sleep in barn' before split

Richard Hammond announced his split from his wife Mindy this week after 28 years together, saying they are 'proud of the family [they] created' together

Former Top Gear star Richard Hammond was reportedly sleeping in a barn on his family's estate before announcing his split from his wife.

On Thursday (January 9), 55-year-old Richard announced his split from Mindy after 28 years together. She had stood by his side after his horror accident, even saying she got a "new and improved" husband out of it.

But wife Mindy, 59, to whom Richard has been married since 2022, is reported to have kicked the car fanatic out of their castle. The duo, as well as daughters Isabella and Willow, live on the £7million Bollitree Castle estate in Herefordshire.

According to The Sun, Mindy asked Richard to sleep in a converted barn on the estate rather than in their grand home. It's reported that the newspaper columnist "wanted him gone".

Now, though, it's reported that Richard is staying at a rented property in a village close to where he runs his car restoration garage, called Smallest Cog.

Richard and Mindy got married in 2002 and bought their grade II listed castle estate in 2008. It has six bedrooms, a swimming pool and a whopping 20 acres of land included.

The reports come after Jeremy Clarkson's co-star Richard released a statement confirming the breakdown of his marriage. He wrote: "A little update from us; this Christmas we were together as a family and this year we will still be a family but just structured a bit differently.

"Our marriage is coming to end, but we've had an amazing 28 years together and two incredible daughters.

"We will always be in each other's lives are are proud of the family we created."

The statement continued: "We won't be commenting further and sincerely hope that our privacy and that of our children will be respected at this time."

It was signed off "with love" from the splitting couple.
