In a trailer for a new documentary about Aaron Rodgers that dropped Tuesday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. asked the star quarterback a telling question:
“Have you thought about going into politics?” (Watch the video below.)
The snippet provides no context as the two converse in nature. But the possibility of Rodgers becoming RFK Jr.’s running mate in his longshot independent bid for the presidency did capture the public’s interest for a while.
Rodgers told Tucker Carlson in May that Kennedy asked him straight-up if he would consider being his potential vice president. Rodgers said he asked Kennedy if he was serious, just to confirm the offer was real.
At the time, the four-time MVP was rehabbing his torn Achilles tendon that knocked him out of the previous season after a few plays with the New York Jets.
But Rodgers, who shares Kennedy’s vaccine skepticism, turned down the offer.
“I love Bobby. We had a couple of really nice conversations,” Rodgers told reporters later in the month. “But there were really two options: Retire and be his VP or keep playing. And I wanted to keep playing.”
Kennedy parlayed his withdrawn candidacy and endorsement of President-elect Donald Trump into a nomination for Health and Human Services secretary. Rodgers has quarterbacked the Jets to a putrid 3-9 record as doubts swirl about his abilities at age 41.
Netflix’s “Enigma” docuseries premieres Dec. 17. Jets fans hope Rodgers will have a few more victories by then.
