When it comes to the most iconic Disney films, Aladdin is one of the greats.

The film, which was released in 1992, boasts an enchanting tale and unforgettable songs have captivated audiences since it first graced our screens. It really is an animation to remember.

However, there's a little-known fact about the beloved character of the Genie. The blue wish-granting genie was voiced by none other than Hollywood legend Robin Williams.

The actor, who sadly passed away in 2014 at the age of 63, actually took on the role for a very special reason. While he's known for his roles in Mrs Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, Patch Adams and Jumanji, many will remember him as the voice behind the iconic cartoon character.

If you were a child of the '90s, it's something that's pretty hard to forget. TikTok videos have now been circulating, revealing the heartwarming reason why he not only voiced the character, but also accepted a significant pay cut to do so.

The story has left fans completely taken aback. It seems many people didn't know about the amazing movie fact.

In a video shared by Infinity Pool, the presenter revealed: "Did you know that Robin Williams accepted $75,000 rather than his typical fee of about £8million for his role as the Genie in Aladdin? He wanted to 'leave something wonderful behind' for his children."

The video has garnered hundreds of views since it was posted, with many quick to comment. A lot found the movie trivia to be absolutely mind-blowing.

One said: "Such an amazing person." A second replied: "Such a great actor. He is missed dearly."

A third person shared their heartfelt emotions, saying: "Special angel. The joy he gave us." Meanwhile, a fourth added: "That's because he was a great man. Miss him, RIP."

Reports suggest Williams was drawn to the Disney movie not for a big salary, but to be part of the amazing "animation tradition". This led him to accept a lower fee.

His decision was sealed after being shown an animation of the Genie, which featured one of his stand-up routines and reportedly had Williams laughing "his a** off".

Speaking on the Today Show, Williams said: "The one thing I said was I will do the voice. I'm doing it basically because I want to be part of this animation tradition. I want something for my children."
