Row erupts over Eamonn Holmes' proposal as he returns to social media

Eamonn Holmes has been hit with backlash following reports he's set to propose to his girlfriend, Katie Alexander, less than a year after he and Ruth Langsford announced their divorce

Eamonn Holmes has come underfire amidst speculation he's planning to propose to his girlfriend.

Over the weekend, speculation became rife that the GB News anchor was madly in love with Katie Alexander, who he has been linked to following his seperation from his estranged wife, Ruth Langsford. The former golden couple of telly had been married for 14 years, having dated since 1996.

But less than 12 months after announcing their decision to part ways, Eamonn, 64, has moved on and has not shied away from discussing his love for Katie. The former This Morning star recently confessed that he can't wait for his "tough year" to be over following his separation.

Now, Eamonn has made a statement as he returned to social media following the speculation. In view of his 791,000 followers on the photo sharing app, he shared an image of himself posing in front of the Mona Lisa while at Louvre Museum in Paris. Captioning his image, Eamonn wrote: "My screen sharing partner today! Beautiful."

But while many were quick to compliment the star, some also hit out as they claimed he had moved on too quickly from Ruth. "Have you ditched poor Maggie as well as Ruth?" asked one. A second went on to say: "Have you no feelings?" Meanwhile, a third penned: "He has left Ruth & engaged to Katie that's pretty quick don't you think? I have always liked Eamon we share same birthday/same year .. but he has behaved badly that's all I have said... And he loved Maggie but she is never with him... So unless you're a half wit! All I have said is true."

"When their divorce is played out in the media & he is now living very quickly with another women whom he has been communicating for years behind Ruth's back .. I'm just saying," another fumed. Eamonn and Katie have been enjoying their time together in recent months having relaxed on a luxury Mediterranean cruise in September. They have jetted off together again as they took a winter break in Paris. While in the City of Love, Katie was seen wearing a sparkling ring on her engagement finger.

The loved up couple were seen outside the Louvre last week as they stepped out of the world-famous art gallery. Eamonn wrapped up warm as he used a mobility chair while Katie donned a faux leather coat with a patterned silk scarf in photos seen by the Sun. The pair were seen just the previous week at a West London carol concert with no ring in sight on Katie's hand.

"Eamonn has been talking openly about his plans to marry Katie and has made it clear he wants to spend the rest of his life with her," a source told the publication. "They're already living together and he knows it feels right. They have a very strong connection and get on very well." They added that Katie has given Eamonn a "real lust for life" and that she looks after him.
