Fearne Cotton has admitted to breaking a major rule at Buckingham Palace when she shared a photo of Rylan Clark sipping tea in the royal residence.

The 43-year-old TV and radio presenter joked that she would be "off to the tower" after revealing that she had taken a snap of her friend Rylan while in the palace, which was strictly forbidden. Fearne even admitted that she knew that this was the main rule of being at the reception but felt, with six years lapsed between now and when the photo was taken, she was able to share the snap with her Instagram followers.

In the snap, Rylan is stood with a teacup to his mouth with a plate of biscuits and a plate of cheese straws on the table in front of him. She captioned the photo: "Found this on my phone from a couple of years ago at Buckingham Palace. Me and @rylan were given one rule... Do not take any photos in the palace thanks #cheesestraws."

The TV star then added underneath the photo: "Off to the tower @fearnecotton".

This comes after Fearne admitted she would "hide in the bathroom" when presenting Radio 1 due to having "crippling anxiety" and has vowed to never work on live TV or radio again, due to the mental health issues it has caused her during her broadcasting career.

Fearne fronted the Radio 1 breakfast show for a year in 2008 before moving on to present her own weekday show for six years until 2015. However, she has admitted that she had a hard time at Radio 1 as she would "sneak off to the loo in between songs" to overcome panic attacks. Fearne said she would suffer from anxiety when she would present her programme. She said that being on live TV or radio would trigger her attacks.

Speaking to The Shift podcast, Fearne talked about her mental health at the time. She said: "I wish it had been different in a way back then because I had such an excruciating time when I was on Radio 1. I didn't feel I could tell anyone because we didn't know that was a possibility back then that you could say 'Look, I am really struggling here and I don't know what to do'.

"And there's still a long way to go but I'm so glad that there is at least a crack in the door. I'm so glad that the ties have changed but back then I massively struggled in that situation of feeling so incapable of doing my job and talking publicly to millions of people every day whilst slowly corroding inside. Sometimes I'd sort of get up and go to the toilet while songs were on and just sort of sit there but I certainly wouldn't tell anyone why or what was going on."
