Scheana Shay opened up about a recent reunion with her ex-husband, Mike Shay, on her podcast. She also shared his thoughts on her new book, My Good Side, which will be released this summer.

As the 39-year-old Vanderpump Rules alum also explained why she’s kept his last name, revealed how current husband Brock Davies feels about her retaining it, and shared her biggest takeaway from the recasting of her Bravo reality show, Scheana admitted that Shay was actually “very excited” to hear that she’s written a book.

“We went and got lunch last week. I wanted to tell him about it in person. I didn’t want him to find out about it online. I was very honest. I told him that I do speak about our relationship, and he was like, ‘You know what? It’s your book. I don’t care. It’s your story.’ And he was genuinely happy for me,” Scheana confirmed on the January 31 episode of Scheananigans. “He’s known me since I was 15 years old, and he knew that this is always something I wanted to do, so he was very happy. I told him I would give him a copy of it ahead of time so he’s not blindsided by anything, and who knows? Maybe one day we’ll be sitting in this room discussing it together. We’ll see.”

As for her decision to keep Shay’s last name, Scheana said that she chose to do so for professional reasons.

“I have built a professional career as Scheana Shay,” she explained, noting that while she attempted to go back to Scheana Marie, it “wasn’t really sticking.”

“At Summer’s school, in my personal life, on our Seesaw app, I am Scheana Davies, I am Mrs. Davies. We are the Davies family, and at this point, I don’t see changing my name professionally,” she continued.

Looking back, Scheana noted that she probably shouldn’t have taken Shay’s last name to begin with.

“My businesses, my retirement, my will, my trust, my houses, my everything is tied up in this name,” she revealed. “If I could go back in time, I don’t know, maybe I would have never even changed my name to Scheana Shay, professionally, because then I’m altering my professional name around a man who I’m obviously no longer with. But I was young. I believed in forever, and the prospect of divorce wasn’t even on my mind. I took my vows seriously, you know, for better or worse.”

While Scheana could go through the process of becoming “Scheana Davies” legally, she said Brock doesn’t mind her being “Scheana Shay” professionally.

“It genuinely does not bother Brock that I use this name. And also, I did recently have lunch with Shay, and I asked him point blank, and it does not bother him either. So if it doesn’t bother the ex-husband, it doesn’t bother the current husband, again, I don’t know why it bothers all of you,” she told listeners.

Also on the podcast, after noting that she and her Pump Rules castmates had a “great run” during their 11 seasons together, she’s excited to move on.

“It’s such an accomplishment in itself, but it’s opened up the door to so many other opportunities, and I felt like, the more and more I think about it, it felt right,” she shared. “It felt like the right time, and it was a bit of a relief, if I’m being honest, that I no longer have to film with these men and people that I don’t really talk to that much anymore. It felt like it was time to move on.”

Vanderpump Rules will return to Bravo later this year with season 12 and an all-new cast.
