A Scots punter was left empty-handed after an unsuccessful appearance on ITV’s hit show The Chase.
Host Bradley Walsh welcomed Donald from Edinburgh along with three other contestants - Fran from London, Lynsey from Truro, and Josh from Mill Hill this afternoon, Tuesday, November 26.
The four teamed up in an effort to best the Chaser and walk away with a cash prize, but Donald was caught by the quizmaster and the whole team left empty-handed by the end of the episode.
Their brutal loss prompted a critical reaction from some viewers on social media, who slammed the show’s format for becoming “boring” and “not exciting to watch”.
As the team faced off with Anne Hegerty, also known as The Governess, only Fran and Lynsey managed to make it back for the final chase, accumulating a total of £7k.
The final contestant, Josh, lost out after he made a risky decision. In the cash builder round, he earned £5k, but in a head-to-head with Anne, he chose to play for the lower offer of minus £1k.
Frustrated viewers hit out online at the team for consistently choosing the lower offer, calling for this option to be banned from the show by producers.
One viewer vented: "FFS. It's just getting boring now. Shake the episodes up @ITV so it's not the same every day as it's getting to the stage where it's not exactly exciting to watch. Time to switch over #TheChase.", reports the Express.
Another suggested: "Make it so each player wins what they put in the pot. If you take a minus, you win nothing! Stop taking low offers! #TheChase."
One added: "#thechase @ITVChase Time to cancel the show for good after this series.
"This consistent lower offer taking is absolutely disgusting, embarrassing and shameful and is completely destroying the show."
