Seven’s new satire segment has caught on in the United States on the eve of the presidential election.
Last Friday’s edition of The 6.57pm News went viral online after it was reshared by X (formerly Twitter) personality and former professional basketball player Rex Chapman to his 1.2 million followers.
His re-sharing of the three-minute segment was viewed 1.5 million times.

The segment largely focussed on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and outgoing President Joe Biden appearing to call his rival’s supporters “garbage”.
Trump, 78, turned the attack into a stunt, dressing in a high-vis vest and riding around in a Trump-branded garbage truck.
Saying Trump dressed as a “convicted sex predator garbage man” for Halloween, Humphries poked light at the situation in the US before jokingly asking whether the AUKUS deal was still viable.
“To recap, a comedian at Trump’s rally called Puerto Rico garbage, resulting in Joe Biden appearing to refer to Trump supporters as garbage, leading to Donald Trump then dressing up as a garbage man and riding around in a garbage truck.
“Are we sure we want to buy submarines off these people?”
Chapman reshared the clip, saying Australia had “Trump figured out”.
“Well done @markhumphries,” he wrote with an Australian flag emoji.
Americans online commented on the clip, saying that the satirical segment was an accurate reflection of how the world viewed events in the lead-up to the US Election.
“I think I’m going to start watching @7NewsMelbourne over any US MSM because that was way better coverage than they’ve ever given,” one wrote.
Another said: “I mean. America, this is how the world sees us.”
A third wrote: “Perfect! And hilarious. Australia, if you’re listening, SOS.”
The 6.57pm News launched in July as a weekly satirical segment every Friday.
Humphries has built a reputation for his sharp political commentary and wit, gaining prominence as a presenter on ABC’s satirical news show The Roast and later on 7.30.
He also appeared on The Feed on SBS, hosted Network Ten’s quiz show Pointless and has been a regular on ABC’s Insiders since 2016.
