As his former Vera co-stars prepare to see themselves in the final series, Kenny Doughty has secured a significant new role in a TV drama, alongside his well-known wife Ashley Jensen, who is currently leading Shetland.
In spring 2023, ITV viewers were left disappointed when Kenny, who was the second sidekick to star with Brenda Blethyn in Vera, revealed he had left his role as Aiden Healy after eight years.
Kenny's last scenes as Aiden were filmed at the end of 2022 for the Christmas special The Rising Tide, which attracted a large audience to ITV on Boxing Day last year.
Several months after leaving Vera, Kenny and Ashley secretly got married, making their first public appearance as a married couple at the 2023 Scottish BAFTA awards.
Earlier this year, Kenny travelled to Shetland where she was filming the latest series of the BBC drama while Ashley was on set filming her second season as DI Ruth Calder.
After announcing that he will soon be starring with Poirot legend David Suchet in the new Channel 5 thriller Au Pair, Kenny has now revealed that he will also be acting alongside his wife Ashley in Wax Fruit. On Instagram, he described it as a 'Scottish period drama with wonderful scripts, locations but most importantly characters and stories for everyone', reports Chronicle Live.
The news was first reported by The Herald newspaper, which informed its readers that the 'long forgotten Scottish masterpiece was being 'brought back to life in an ambitious TV production.'
Kenny's fans were quick off the mark to respond, with one still lamenting his departure from Vera saying: "Broken man when you left Vera," while another remark made reference to "A wonderful acting couple."
