Roman Kemp has opened up about a poignant moment that left his mum feeling gutted, as he shared a candid confession about his place within the family.

The One Show favourite, who is the son of Spandau Ballet legend Martin Kemp and pop icon Shirlie Kemp, gave fans an intimate peek into his home life, while admitting he doesn't feel comfortable taking centre stage.

He spoke of how his dad and older sister Harley Moon's musical talents lead to impromptu performances at home, but confessed to The Guardian: "I really upset my mum recently, because I said that sometimes I feel like I don't fit in with our family."

He described the family scene: "I go back home and my dad will be on the piano, my sister will be singing, my mum's taking videos and pictures. And I just want to be on my own. I'm not... embarrassed by it, but that form of extroversion is not really me."

In a heartfelt revelation last November, Roman, who has been vocal about his mental health journey, told his followers that he had ceased using antidepressants after over a decade. On Instagram, he celebrated the meds being "out" of his system, having started them at 15, and expressed his eagerness to discover his true emotional self.

The presenter, who has grappled with depression for 13 years and was prescribed sertraline, previously spoke out about his mental health struggles during an appearance on Steph's Packed Lunch.

Roman further elaborated on Instagram, maintaining a neutral stance on medication: "I'm neither for or against taking anti-depressants, I'm about what is right for YOU and if it helps you then go for it.", reports the Express.

Roman Kemp will reportedly not be hosting the 2025 BRIT Awards after fronting the show with Maya Jama and Clara Amfo in 2024. Despite previously saying it was a "dream come true" to helm the event, a source claims the TV and radio host "accepts that these things change".

The insider added that Roman felt "flattered" by the opportunity last year, but as a "pro", he understands the decision. Roman has also appeared on the celebrity version of Gogglebox with his dad since 2019, alongside his work on BBC's The One Show and previously on Capital Breakfast.
